The body in space....

Busy days lately as we roll onto the end of another year.....

I am working on a new uni subject... this time i have chosen two topics.... The Body in Space and the BODY and Identity...

It is encouraged to research widely and to experiment broadly with different materials and surfaces for these drawings.
I am investigating underprivileged people who beg in the streets of sydney... and how they claim personal "space" in an impersonal city... waiting....

Here are some images I have been working on along these lines so far...

Last minute artwork

It has been a very hectic end of Study Period for the subjects that I am working on at Uni.... I am feeling quite
exhausted, especially with crazy hours spent at work on top of it all.... But i am proud to say i am still managing to produce work.. even at this late hour! Happy with the results of this one.. It is an ink drawing about the domestic
culture of routine...
Inspired by Braque, Carra, Matisse ... Still life with Bust... on a collage of Bills... envelopes, recipes, newspaper.. to depict the undercurrent of busy - ness of modern day life..... no meditative domestic routine for me!!

photography....

It's something that I hope to improve at!! I have a great SLR digital camera and up until recently had no idea how to really use it... but a very patient friend.. who is a fabulous photographer with a keen interest in birds taught me a few things! I am happy with the results and looking forward to having time to practice.... it's fun looking at the world through the eyes of a camera!

t-shirts!

I have been designing t-shirts for a wonderful couple who run a school leavers t-shirt business for about 16 years!! Bill Creek was a teacher at my high school, we have maintained a friendship and working relationship for all this time. The business is Crocodile Creek T-shirts. Below is a variety of designs that I have drawn for them over the last few years.... black and white, simple fun! These are all copyright to crocodile creek... please do not take them for commercial use....!

a roller door...

I am trying to play around with a mood for these drawings... the first image is the original... graphite and turps on A2... not much can be done when it is already a somber kind of drawing.... but i like some of the results here using photoshop filters...

Ink drawings of the creek installation

I decided to do the drawing using actual rubbish! I found bottle tops, plastic bottles, old string, a used teabag, plastic wrappers etc and had a wonderful time using different mark-making techniques with ink that worked over a wax rubbing of the installation framework. Happy with the results...
Also I returned to the creek the following week...

50 min of my time = 2 big bags of rubbish + 40 bottles into the recycling bin. Easy!

Down at the creek!

One of the assignments I had to undertake recently for the Fine Art and Visual Culture degree I am doing through Curtin University was to create some sort of geometric installation in an uncultured environment... and subsequently draw the results. I had a few ideas on this one... and after many failed attempts, I ended up down at the local creek... I thought the structred element of the drain my work alongside the natural bush environment. I discovered, to my dismay, a lot of rubbish had been dumped there. I decided to focus on the rubbish with the string as a kind of framework. ( it was impossible NOT to see it there anyway) The following are photos of the site... I will include the results with the drawing in the next post!
